WAC Bennett Dam Spillway - photo by Joy Morton

Welcome to the website of Hudson's Hope, BC.  Located on a scenic route leading to the Alaska Highway, Hudson's Hope is 90 km west of Ft. St. John and 66 km north of Chetwynd.

Map of British Columbia

Situated on the banks of the Peace River in the Rocky Mountain foothills, with abundant wildlife, rivers, lakes and spring fed creeks, Hudson's Hope is a community of natural splendor. In fact, many believe that the drive between Hudson's Hope and Ft. St. John is the most beautiful in the Peace River Country. For travelers wanting to stay a day or two, there are a number of free campgrounds in the immediate vicinity of Hudson's Hope. Be forewarned, though, many who stop for a day or two stay for a   lifetime.

Despite its size, with just over a thousand residents, the community of Hudson's Hope has much to offer. For nature lovers, the wilderness - where you may travel by foot, mountain bike, horse or 4 X 4 - is only a few steps away. For the less adventurous travelers who still want to see the local wildlife, take heart, you will most likely see a variety of animals while driving.

Hudson's Hope is a place of delight for the budding paleontologist or geologist. Once an inland sea, the area holds fossils waiting to be discovered by the keen eye. If you have the time, take a trip up Williston Lake to look at glacier sinkholes or for fossils to take home with you. If time doesn't permit a field trip, stop by our local museum where you can check out the local history from dinosaurs and mammoths to Hudson Bay traders and coal miners to the building of the WAC Bennett Dam and Peace Canyon Generating Station. If the dams are of interest to you, stop by their Visitor's Centre and enjoy their free tours.

So come visit us, for there is a little something in Hudson's Hope for everyone. Keep in mind, however, as you sit in the banks of the beautiful Peace River, that legend says that those who drink from the waters of the Mighty Peace will always return.
